Dubrovnik is a city with an ancient history in the southernmost part of Croatia, at the very end of the Dubrovnik Isthmus. The settlement is a tourist center and the capital of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Dubrovnik is called the "Pearl of the Adriatic".
In the past, the city was one of the important centers of development of the Serbo-Croatian language and a center of writers, poets, playwrights, artists, mathematicians, physics and other scientists, although it is the center of the Croatian semi-exclave or the so-called. Serbian Pomorie, recognized as Serbian and under the Treaty of London for the accession of Italy to the Entente
Dubrovnik (Ragusa) was founded at the merger of two cities - Laus, located on a small island along the southern Dalmatian coast, sheltered Italian refugees from the nearby town of Epidaurus (today's Cavtat), and Dabrava, a Slavic settlement at the foot of a wooded hill.
