When in 1402 Mr. the Welsh chronicler Adam of Usk traveled by oxcart through the wild and remote St. Gotthard Pass in Switzerland on his way to Rome, was so terrible, that he asked his guides to blindfold him, so that he doesn't look. For millennia, these mountains were the greatest barrier to travelers and traders on the Old Continent. Today it is the widest pass in Switzerland with incredible scenery of the surrounding peaks. At the top (2106 m) we will stop at a small inn – symbol of a vital road and rail route for centuries. This place connects the German-speaking and the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and is located on the road to Milan and Lugano.
